Cosmetic dentistry is an increasingly popular way for patients to enhance the appearance of their teeth, gums, and bite through procedures that improve the overall dental aesthetics. Cosmetic dentistry can also refine the color, shape, size, alignment, and position of teeth--leading to an overall improved smile appearance.

Our experienced staff performs a variety of cosmetic dentistry procedures including inlays and onlays, dental veneers, and teeth whitening.

Dental Inlays

Dental inlays are tooth-colored materials, usually ceramic or porcelain material, that fit a specific size and shape of a cavity. Sometimes inlays are used to replace old or unsightly metal fillings that do not blend in well with teeth. Inlays are used in molars when the tooth is decayed to the point that it cannot support a basic filling but is not damaged enough to require a crown. One of the major benefits of inlays is that the inlay can be polished to a precise fine line to minimize recurring decay. Another major advantage of inlays is that there are more choices of tooth-colored material to use for the inlay.

Dental onlays, similar to inlays, fit inside the tooth but also extend to the chewing surface, covering more area than dental inlays. An onlay, on the other hand, is a form of indirect restoration. The onlay is also made of a ceramic or porcelain substance. This material is able to bond to the tooth which helps improve tooth strength and seal the onlay.

An advantage of veneers is that they remove less tooth material than crowns. The procedure is usually faster and more comfortable than a crown procedure. Veneers are recommended for teeth that have large fillings or have little structure to the tooth.

Bonding and Veneers

Composite bonding is another type of cosmetic dentistry. Composite bonding uses dental material to fill in chipped or gapped teeth. By filling in the gaps, our patients are left with an overall better smile and appearance. Composite bonding is also used to fix staining in teeth by bonding the white material with the tooth to remove sight of the stain. A benefit of composite bonding is that it can be done quickly, usually within one appointment. Not only is it an efficient process, but it is a safe an effective technique that has been widely available and researched for decades. Composite bonding is ideal for those looking for a cosmetic solution to healthy teeth.

Dental veneers are coverings placed over the visible area of the tooth in order to improve appearance. They help conceal stains, discoloration, chips, or other deformities on the tooth. Veneers are applied using two different techniques: direct and indirect. When using the direct technique, the dentist will place the composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. Using the indirect technique, the veneers are manufactured at a laboratory once impressions of the teeth are made. While the veneers are being made the patient wears a temporary covering on the tooth. Once the veneers are back from the laboratory, they are bonded to the teeth. These veneers are created using porcelain or ceramic materials.

Teeth Whitening

Another beneficial cosmetic procedure is teeth whitening. Professional teeth whitening is a safe and painless procedure for most patients that leads to an enhanced smile and raised self-confidence. Teeth can be discolored by many things including coffee, wine, food, and colored drinks. Teeth whitening helps restore natural white color to the teeth.

Teeth whitening can be done in our office or at home using tray whitening. In-office whitening takes place in our office taking a total of two hours for the entire procedure. During this procedure, a protective gel is applied to your gums to protect the tissue. Then light-activated gel is applied to your teeth and we use a laser to activate the whitening gel. To end the appointment, we take an impression of your teeth and give you a custom tray so you can touch up your teeth at home. Typically patients who receive in-office teeth whitening have results that last years!

Teeth Whitening Trays

We also offer tray whitening. This is a more affordable whitening treatment where we give you custom trays based off an impression of your teeth. In the comfort of your home, you will wear the tray with the special whitening gel 30 to 60 minutes for twice a day. The result will be a whiter smile and improved appearance.
